5 Dope Personality Tests That Let You Psychoanalyse Yourself! Take ‘Em Here!

The truth is, we’re all secretly obsessed with ourselves. That’s why we love taking personality tests – they validate our qualities and make us feel seen, and can even help us achieve a sense of belonging. We love to share what we found out about ourselves because they confirm what we believe, and we’re always looking for information that confirms what we already know.

Aside from getting to know yourself better, personality tests can also make you feel a sense of community, since they help you find like-minded people. Plus, they’re just a fun pastime when you’re bored at work/school! Here are 5 personality tests that let you psychoanalyse yourself to your heart’s desire!

Myers-Briggs Personality Test

SOURCE: WIKIMEDIA COMMONS

If you’ve been on the internet lately, you’ve probably come across some posts about the different MBTI (Myers Briggs Type Indicator) Types and what common tropes they have. It’s one of the most popular personality assessments out there, and people have been using different ways to showcase the different personality types – from what choice of clothing they would wear, to an entire reality show dedicated to seeing how the different types interact with each other.

The test was initially inspired by Carl Jung’s personality theory, where it separates people into 16 categories of personalities, each represented by a four-letter acronym. The test covers your communication style, your strengths and weaknesses, your desires and ambitions, how you see the world, and how people perceive you. While the validity of this test is still debatable, you might be surprised by its accuracy.

Enneagram Test

Another popular personality test that has taken over the internet by storm, the enneagram describes patterns in how people interpret the world and manage their emotions. It consists of a system of personalities that describes people in terms of 9 personality types, each defined by a core belief of how the world works. Basically, it helps us to see why a person behaves the way they do.

The test is a long one, as it consists of 105 questions. It measures your core motivations for how you approach life, such as conflict resolution, team dynamics, leadership and emotional intelligence. It has even been used in areas such as counselling, psychotherapy, business development, parenting and education. Though it is common to find a little of yourself in all 9 types, one of them should stand out being closest to yourself.

DiSC Assessment

SOURCE: PEXELS

DiSC is an acronym that stands for the four main behavioural styles: Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, and Conscientiousness. It was created predominantly for organisational use, but many people find this test useful when it comes to understanding their communication style and their work ethic. This assessment contains 28 questions, where you’re presented with four descriptions, and you have to choose one that’s most like you.

People who are looking to find out what career path they should take can try to find out their DiSC style since it describes their working style, leadership style, and how they interact with people in the workplace. So if you’re just starting out in your career, this test might just give you the insight and confirmation you need.

Attachment Style Test

SOURCE: PEXELS

For most of us, romantic relationships are a vital part of life. But as we all know, not all relationships last. It could be circumstantial, or just wanting different things in life, or it could be our attachment styles. Our attachment style is solidified during childhood, where we develop an attachment to our primary caregivers. It has a profound effect not only on our emotional development, but also our adult relationships, such as our partner selection, how we behave in relationships, and sadly, how they end.

The main attachment styles are: Secure, Anxious/Preoccupied, Avoidant/Dismissive, and Disorganised/Fearful Avoidant. They show us how each of us reacts to our needs and how we go about getting them met. For example, a person with a secure attachment style is empathetic and able to set appropriate boundaries, so they tend to feel safe, stable, and more satisfied in their close relationships. A person with an insecure attachment style, on the other hand, may be needy or clingy in close relationships, or behave in selfish and manipulative ways when they’re feeling vulnerable, or simply block out any form of intimacy altogether. By recognising your attachment style, you can start forming healthier and happier relationships.

Dark Triad Personality Test

SOURCE: PEXELS

Unlike how the other personality tests measure your strengths, this test explores socially undesirable personality traits, including Narcissism, Machiavellianism, and Psychopathy. Studies have shown that people who score high on the Dark Triad are more likely to commit crimes or get in trouble with the law and are more likely to cause trouble at their workplace or problems among their close relationships.

6 Easy Ways To Keep Your Relationship Strong, Fun & Mostly Drama-Free!

This test is for anyone who thinks that they may be have traits associated with the dark triad personality, and use it as a self-screening tool to help them figure out whether they can benefit from the support of a mental health professional. However, it is not intended to be a diagnostic tool, and it doesn’t mean you are diagnosed with a personality disorder or have any of the dark triad personality traits. But just like all the other tests, take it with a grain of salt.
