At some point in your life, you start reminiscing things from the past. It’s not always a bad thing. In fact, it can be pretty fun to see what you do remember and compare your childhood with others.

Now, Malaysians tend to share a lot of things from our childhood and one of them is the cutesy drink Vitagen. Colourful, good for a hot day and for a nice quick drink, Vitagen was just one of those childhood drinks that many remember. So, for old times sake, here are four things you (probably) didn’t know about Vitagen!

1. Vitagen’s History

You’ll probably remember Vitagen being really popular during your childhood. But when did it actually start? Vitagen was established by Malaysia Dairy Industries (MDI) in 1969. It was then introduced to the market in 1977 in both Malaysia and Singapore, making it the first cultured drink in the two countries. It’s still a nice beverage to get today.

2. Vitagen’s Flavours

As any kid knows, Vitagen came in a variety of flavours, easily identified by its colours. Purple meant grape, green was apple, white was plain yogurt and orange was obviously for an orange-flavoured drink. In a pack of five, we usually got one extra flavour and most of the time, we tried to ensure it was grape. However, each flavour is made with wholesome milk and real fruit juice, so there aren’t any preservatives involved to mar its fruity tastes.

3. Vitagen Less Sugar and Collagen Series

If you still miss the drink as an adult, there are now two types of Vitagen. They have introduced Vitagen Less Sugar and Vitagen Collagen. While both still promote its usual benefits, the Less Sugar series is for those looking to cut down on their sugar intake. Additionally, the Collagen series is meant to help maintain joint function and skin strength and elasticity.

However, the kicker is that these two series come with some interesting flavours. Both still have the original, yogurt flavour, but Vitagen Less Sugar has grape and pineapple! If you prefer a floral taste, do try the Collagen series with its Rose and Elderflower flavours.

4. Vitagen’s Popularity

Vitagen’s products are halal certified and is a locally produced fermented milk drink. However, it’s also exported to more than 50 countries around the world. It’s available in its iconic packs-of-five in sundry shops and hypermarkets. So, if you’ve ever got a craving for one, it’ll be pretty easy to find!

So, which flavour did you guys like best? Drop us a comment and let us know!
