Here Are 3 Things To Know About The Purple Flag Movement

During MCO, many people started flying white flags outside their houses. The white flags were raised as a call for help from those who could not cover their basic necessities. Malaysians were eager to help but they were concerned about the health risk.

Although MCO has now ended, many are now struggling in the aftermath as they slowly readjust to life after MCO. Malaysia may be slowly easing up on the Covid-19 restrictions, but people are still concerned about leaving the house unnecessarily.

So, KitaJaga.co has come up with a solution. They created an answering call to the White Flag movement; simply named the Purple Flag movement. Here’s what you need to know about it:

1. Inspiration behind the Purple Flag movement

The founder of Kita Jaga, Reza Razali, saw a need that required a remedy. “We wanted to create a solution that demonstrates the positive and generous spirit that lives within all Malaysians by bringing people from all walks of life together to help one another through a simple flag,” he said. They then came up with the Purple Flag movement. If white signifies someone at the end of their rope, purple was to show the generous spirit of Malaysians who want to help.

2. Effect of the movement so far

MCO may have ended but many are still hoisting white flags. When Kita Jaga started the movement in September, they managed to help 53 recipients. But more flags are popping up everyday. The number of white flags on their platform KitaJaga.co far outnumber the purple flags. “This shows the pressing need for more donors to come forward and help those in need by ensuring their pleas do not go unnoticed,” Reza said.

3. How to join

If you’re interested to help, it’s a straightforward deal. Simply go to their website and click the button saying “I want to help.” Then, pin a virtual purple flag to your location. After that, prepare your donations and let Kita Jaga know when you are ready with it. The team will arrange for a pickup of the goods and will pass it off to homes with white flags. No charge involved, and both the donor and receiver will be safe.
