Founded in 1990, the Seoul Music Awards is an awards show that’s presented annually by Sports Seoul to recognize outstanding achievements in the Korean music industry. Unlike a lot of popular South Korean music awards shows, the Seoul Music Awards is not entirely dependent on just sales figures alone.
Artistes deserving of awards are chosen through voting (20%), digital/album sales (50%), research (10%), and panel judging (20%). It has also been said that industry experts would usually step in to assist the decision-making process. Following which, one artiste is then chosen from the group of “Bonsang” winners for the prestigious “Daesang”.
This year, the 22nd Seoul Music Awards will take place at the Handball Stadium, Olympic Park on 31st January 2013 (that’s today!) at 7pm. K-Pop idols/idol groups that are currently in the running to bag an award (or two) are:
