From a burger and waffle joint to sacred temples, Stovelab, a Malaysian-centered music platform, defies the norm for the electronic music scene, bringing high-energy sets to the unlikeliest of places. With the series “Setscapes”, Stovelab featured Cherry Bomb’s JOVYNN for its second episode just a couple of days ago (13th April 2025), set at the entrance of Muzium Negara.

The powerhouse DJ delivered her signature genre-defying set in a blend of hard groove and hard techno to the country’s most historical landmarks, reimagining spaces for the celebration of music and culture. Breaking away from the usual norm of associating electronic music with only the club scene, JOVYNN’s Muzium Negara set moves beyond the underground scene, evolving with the support of the community.

“Playing a set at Muzium Negara is surreal. The contrast between traditional heritage and modern electronic sounds makes this one of my most unique sets yet”, JOVYNN tells JUICE. She continues, “There’s something magical about bringing underground energy to a space filled with history. What Stovelab is doing truly deserves recognition. They have my full support“.

Stovelab’s “Setscapes” debuted with DJ Vanns Ngo at Thean Hou Temple, marking a significant change for the electronic music scene in KL. Now, everyone is hopping on the trend of shifting regular spaces such as mamaks, concept stores and just a regular backyard to spaces for creating a music-driven experience.

Founder of Stovelab, Rizq, explains, “We’re here to prove that music isn’t confined to clubs or festivals—it can be powerful anywhere. Muzium Negara represents our rich history, and placing a DJ set in this space bridges the past with the future“. He goes on to explain that Stovelab is centred around how people experience sound and space. Electronic music has always carried emotion and energy, and Stovelab is bringing that to places with deep stories of their own.

What do we think about the electronic music scene evolving to regular places? Should it evolve beyond the underground, or is it wiser to keep them under the radar?
