There has been a slew of idols getting accused of racism lately, mostly after leaked videos showed several stars saying the N-word in song covers during their practice sessions. The most recent idol to get hit with an accusation is GOT7’s (갓세븐) Jackson (잭슨/王嘉爾) – but DIVE Studios were quick to smooth things out.
The idol recently appeared in an episode of DIVE Studios’ “Daebak Show” alongside hosts Eric Nam (에릭남), Ashley Choi (애슐리) and BTOB’s (비투비) Peniel (프니엘). During the interview, the four singers began a quiz session. After Jackson got the wrong answers to a question, he stood up and walked away, playfully tossing his notebook down. However, some viewers suggested that the idol may have said something that sounded like the N-word as he walked away.

While unconfirmed, the clip quickly made rounds on social media, with many netizens accusing Jackson of using the slur. However, many fans came to the idol’s defense, saying he might have said “brother” instead, noting that he has a habit of using the word. Some also shared a slowed-down version of the clip to prove Jackson’s innocence, arguing that netizens shouldn’t jump to conclusions.
Thankfully, DIVE Studios got wind of the situation and released the unedited footage of the clip to clarify the matter. In its statement, the media company wrote, “Hi everyone — we want to address the serious and misleading allegations currently circulating online regarding a recent clip featuring Jackson on DIVE.” DIVE Studios continued, explaining that Jackson did indeed say “brother” during the filming instead of the suggested N-word.

The company also said they previously edited out the part of the clip due to concerns about potential misrepresentation. However, they are now releasing the original, unedited clip to defend Jackson and prove his innocence. Many fans have reacted to DIVE Studio’s post, thanking them for clarifying the situation. At the same time, they also criticised netizens for spreading the edited clip to frame Jackson for something he didn’t say.
Using a slur is never okay, and people need to be held accountable if they are guilty. However, we’re glad that DIVE Studios was able to clear Jackson’s name.
