When it comes to cherry blossom viewing, Japan and South Korea often come to mind first. However, Taiwan’s cherry blossom season is equally breathtaking, boasting a diverse array of cherry blossom species and scenic spots perfect for families and friends to enjoy together. Visitors can immerse themselves in the mesmerising sea of pink blossoms, experiencing the beauty of spring in a relaxed and enchanting atmosphere.

Abe Chou, Director of the Taiwan Tourism Administration Office in Kuala Lumpur shared: “Taiwan offers stunning cherry blossom landscapes and continuously enhances its Muslim-friendly facilities to ensure that Malaysian travellers can enjoy the beauty of Taiwan’s four seasons with comfort and peace of mind. We sincerely invite our Muslim friends to experience Taiwan’s cherry blossom season, where they will find halal-certified restaurants, prayer facilities, and the warmth of Taiwanese hospitality, making them feel at home.”

Below are three of Taiwan’s top cherry blossom hotspots:

LOHAS Park, Neihu – Taipei’s Most Magical Nighttime Cherry Blossom Walkway

For those seeking an effortless cherry blossom experience within Taipei city, LOHAS Park in Neihu is the perfect choice! The park features various cherry blossom species, including Taiwan cherry, Yoshino cherry, and double-flowered cherry trees, which bloom beautifully along the Neigouxi river Trail, adding a romantic charm to the urban landscape.

Highlights:

  • Daytime Viewing: Delicate cherry blossoms flutter in the wind, painting a dreamy picture along the riverbank – ideal for photography and social media posts.
  • Illuminated Night Blossoms: The cherry blossom tunnel is softly lit in the evening, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of Japan’s cherry blossom festivals.
  • City’s Most Accessible Cherry Blossom Trail: Enjoy a leisurely stroll surrounded by falling petals, without the need for long-distance travel.

Taichung: Taiwan’s Largest Cherry Blossom Festival

The cherry blossom festival at the Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village is one of Taiwan’s most iconic spring events, attracting numerous visitors each year. The park boasts over 5,000 cherry trees, including Yoshino cherry, double-flowered cherry, and Taiwan cherry, creating a mesmerising spectacle.

Highlights:

  • Pink Cherry Blossom Tunnel: Stroll through breathtaking cherry blossom-lined walkways, where every corner is a picture-perfect moment.
  • Romantic Night Blossoms: The illuminated cherry blossoms at night create a dreamy and surreal landscape.
  • Traditional Japanese Cultural Experience: Visitors can rent kimono and participate in a Japanese tea ceremony, enhancing the Kyoto-like ambience.
  • Spring-Exclusive Market: A vibrant marketplace featuring a fusion of Taiwanese indigenous culture and Japanese flavours, adding a unique touch to the cherry blossom festivities.

Tainan: A Unique Cherry Blossom & Railway Journey

Alishan is not only famous for its breathtaking sea of clouds and sunrise views but is also a premier cherry blossom viewing destination. With over 40 species of cherry trees blooming in the area, the entire mountain transforms into a fairytale-like pink paradise every spring.

Highlights:

  • Alishan Forest Railway: Take a nostalgic ride on the vintage railway, passing through cherry blossom tunnels for an unforgettable scenic journey.
  • Must-Visit Cherry Blossom Spots:
    • The “King of Sakura” – A majestic Yoshino cherry tree over a century old, creating an awe-inspiring bloom each year.
    • Alishan Police Station – One of only two police stations in Taiwan where cherry blossoms bloom, making it a must-visit Instagram hotspot.
    • Zhaoping Railway Station Cherry Blossom Trail – A serene railway walkway lined with cherry blossoms, offering a calming and picturesque experience.

An Ideal Destination For Muslim Travellers
