When the idol survival show “Chuang Asia” revealed the lineup for its second season, locals were excited to learn that five Malaysian trainees were part of the competition. A few episodes later, only three Malaysian trainees are left in the running for a place in the debuting group.
A local media recently interviewed trainees Jackson, Alton, and Sunny to share their thoughts about their “Chuang Asia S2” journey and the hardships. As filming for the show takes place in Thailand, the trio admitted that one of the hardest things about being a trainee is the homesickness. In particular, Alton said the first thing he wants to do after the competition ends is to go home and see his mother.

The three trainees also spoke about the stress they face from going through vigorous training every day. Since Jackson and Alton are both from athletic backgrounds, they didn’t have much experience singing or dancing compared to the other trainees. As such, the two needed to work harder than the rest to build a good foundation for their performances. Jackson said all his efforts felt reaffirmed after receiving praises from the show’s mentors.
Of course, trainee life in the “Chuang Asia” camp is also hard on everyone else. Sunny said the most difficult part is that the show adopts closed management, meaning all trainees are always practising for their next performance. The show also bans the trainees from using their phones in their free time to focus on training. Funnily, this no-phone system prompted the viral moment where singer and guest mentor Lisa (리사) treated the trainees to sushi.

Since Jackson, Alton and Sunny are representing Malaysia, it’s understandable that the boys feel slightly burdened to carry the expectations of local fans. However, they said the love and support they received from fans helped motivate them. They also thanked fans for continuing to vote for them on the show and said they would work harder to make their fans proud and live up to their expectations.
The trainees also recently held their first public fan meeting at Sunway Pyramid Shopping Centre, where they received warm greetings from fans. We wish Jackson, Alton and Sunny all the best in the “Chuang Asia S2” journey, and we look forward to seeing their debut!
