Last year, Chinese celebrity couple Michelle Chen (陈妍希) and Chen Xiao (陈晓) sparked concern after rumours surfaced that the two had secretly divorced. After months of speculation, the pair finally confirmed the split.
Earlier today (18th February 2025, Tuesday), the two stars took to Weibo to announce their separation after eight years of marriage. Michelle and Chen Xiao posted the same message on their respective accounts, writing, “We’re grateful for meeting each other. We will remain on good terms in the future. We will parent our children together and accompany them as they grow up.” They also tagged each other on the post.
Netizens have since reacted to the two posts, wishing the stars all the best in their lives. Rumours of Michelle and Chen Xiao splitting first surfaced in mid-2024, when news outlets reported that the pair were living separately after the actor moved out of the couple’s home. It was also alleged that he changed his phone number and blocked Michelle to cut all contact with the actress.
Michelle and Chen Xiao met as co-stars on the set of the 2014 Chinese drama, “The Romance Of The Condor Heroes (神雕侠侣). After a year of dating, the two tied the knot in 2016. The actress would later give birth to their son that same year. There had long been rumours of an unhappy marriage between the two stars, but they repeatedly denied the allegations. Even after reports of their divorce broke out, the public figures kept silent on the matter.
Interestingly, news outlets reported in October 2024 that the pair would only announce their divorce after Chinese New Year 2025. The wait was allegedly so the two could complete their respective acting projects. There were also rumours that Michelle and Chen Xiao were banned from publicising their divorce because it might affect their endorsement deals. However, these allegations remain unconfirmed.
