How does Malaysian-born luxury designer Professor Datuk Jimmy Choo (周仰杰) celebrate his birthday as a renowned figure in fashion? With a grand party featuring some famous faces, of course!
Datuk Jimmy Choo recently celebrated his 76th birthday with a grand event at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Kuala Lumpur. The event was in conjunction with the designer’s jewellery brand, Rafflesia’s, 30th anniversary celebration. Of course, given the momentous occasion, many stars turned up, including local celebrities, Hong Kong actresses and even K-pop idols.

According to news reports, Hong Kong actress Michelle Yim (嚴惠玲) and singer Maria Cordero (玛俐亚) were some of the many celebrities on the guest list. Michelle reportedly took the stage to perform a song dedicated to Datuk Jimmy. Meanwhile, Maria took the lead when guests sang “Happy Birthday” for the man of the hour. Maria, who has known the designer for many years, showered the 76-year-old in praise throughout the night, saying he’s getting younger each day.
Many Malaysian celebrities were also at the event, including supermodel Amber Chia (谢丽萍) and actresses Amelia Henderson, Bella Astillah, Eyka Farhana and Yaya Zahir. Also present at the gala were television personality Azwan Ali and social media influencers Phei Yong (培永) and JinnyBoy. K-pop idol Sorn (ชลนสร/쏜), Australian-Korean singer Hanbyul (장한별) and renowned cosplayer Hakken were also at the event to celebrate Datuk Jimmy’s big day.

Many of the famous guests – over a hundred of them – showed up in songket pieces designed by Datuk Jimmy’s mentee and Rafflesia’s in-house designer, Peony Sin (萧惠玟). As the event was also a celebration of Rafflesia’s 30th anniversary, the brand held a fashion show to showcase the many designs from the young creative director. According to guests, Amber Chia also walked the runway in a pink songket dress designed by Peony.
Congratulations to Rafflesia on its 30th anniversary, and a happy birthday to Datuk Jimmy Choo! We hope to see more incredible works from Datuk Jimmy and Peony in the future!
