If you hadn’t heard, Chinese actress Fan Bingbing (范冰冰) was recently in Malaysia, working on an upcoming movie with award-winning director Chong Keat Aun (張吉安). The cast and crew recently wrapped up filming in Kedah – but before the Chinese actress went off for the next item on her agenda, Bingbing took one last opportunity to tour Alor Setar.
The 43-year-old recently shared several photos of her sightseeing excursion around the city on her social media. Joining Bingbing’s tour around Alor Setar was director Keat Aun, a Kedah native. In her Instagram post, the star wrote, “Taking a break amidst the busyness, the director accompanied me on a tour around Kedah. After filming for so long, we finally had the chance to take a stroll.”

According to the star, the duo enjoyed some local delicacies and visited some of Kedah’s iconic attractions, including the Kedah Royal Museum, the Alor Setar Tower, the Zahir Mosque and Pekan Cina (Chinatown). Bingbing and Keat Aun also took tons of photos during their trip, striking a pose in front of every tourist attraction they visited.
However, amongst all the photos she shared, the ones that caught netizens’ attention the most were of Bingbing in a hijab. The actress likely wore the hijab during her visit to the Zahir Mosque as it’s a requirement for visitors to cover their aurat before entering the holy place, which includes hair for female guests.

Many local fans have reacted to the photos, expressing awe at the pictures of Bingbing around Alor Setar. Many Kedahans also welcomed the star to their hometown and said they hope she enjoyed her time in the state. Some also quipped that the star seemed very fond of Malaysia, saying she deserved her title as tourism ambassador.
Despite her busy schedule, Bingbing does appear to have enjoyed her time in Kedah to the fullest. Meanwhile, her movie, “Mother Bhumi (地母)”, is slated for release in the second half of 2025. She also expressed excitement about working with Keat Aun on the project, so we can’t wait to see the final results.
