The Mines Shopping Centre is well-known for its river cruise attraction. However, fishing is strictly prohibited on the premises. Despite this, there was once a child who went viral for catching a large fish at the riverbank earlier last year. While many netizens were impressed with his catch of the day, they also expressed concerns about potential repercussions from the mall.

One might expect The Mines to take measures to prevent such incidents in the future, given the fishing ban. Surprisingly, another similar incident occurred at the same mall, but this time involving an adult. Here’s the story:

Earlier this week, a TikTok user known as Hanz Azkhan posted a video of an incident he witnessed during his visit to The Mines last weekend. The video showed a man fishing in the shopping centre’s river, with shoppers watching as he reeled in his catch. A security guard was also seen reprimanding the individual while calling for backup on his walkie-talkie.

The fisherman appeared to be enjoying himself, but unfortunately, he ultimately lost the fish as it swam away. A follow-up video, posted yesterday (Thursday, 10 October), showed the man moving to the other side of the mall’s river in an attempt to catch another fish, while guards stood idly by. The first post went viral, amassing 408.9k views and becoming the user’s most-viewed video on TikTok. It has also been shared on other social media platforms.

Netizens were baffled by the man’s actions, with some criticising him for not respecting the mall’s rules and suggesting he should have gone fishing at the nearby lake. Others called out the security guards for not escorting the individual out despite him not listening to their warnings. At the time of writing, The Mines’s management has yet to respond to the viral incident.
