When it comes to expressing love for Malaysia, no K-pop idol can top Stray Kids’ (스트레이키즈) member Han (한). Fans are well aware that the 24-year-old rapper spent part of his childhood in Malaysia, living in various districts around Selangor. This connection earned him the affectionate nickname “Budak Ampang” from local fans.
Han frequently mentions Malaysia whenever he gets the chance, showing just how much he cherishes the memories he made here. Recently, in an episode of “Knowing Brothers” (아는 형님), Han shared another core memory from his time in Malaysia—this time, about his experience in the Malaysian jungle. Here’s what he revealed:
During a segment on the show called “Transfer Student Quiz,” where guests prepare questions about themselves for the original cast to guess, Han presented a particularly intriguing one. His question was, “When I was young, I was travelling and experienced something amazing! What was it?” Since the question was tough to figure out, he offered a clue, saying, “I was living in Malaysia at the time, and this happened during a jungle trip.”
As the cast and other Stray Kids’ members attempted to guess, one of the main cast members got close by mentioning crocodiles. After more clues, Hyunjin (현진) came even closer, guessing, “It rained, so you slipped. When you opened your eyes, there was a group of crocodiles.”
After several failed attempts to guess the right answer, the “Alien” singer finally revealed the story. Han shared that while in the water where he fell, he saw a massive crocodile tail. “I grabbed a branch that was stuck to a rock and shouted, ‘Help me!’ when I saw the crocodile’s tail flap right before my eyes,” he recalled. Thankfully, he was quickly rescued by the locals.
Many STAYs felt bad for Han, expressing how unfortunate it was for him to have gone through such a life-threatening experience at such a young age, while others were overjoyed that he once again mentioned Malaysia on camera. Some fans also jokingly commented that the reason Stray Kids have yet to visit Malaysia is that Han might still be traumatised by the crocodile incident.
