Malaysians take their food very seriously, and many restaurants have been subjected to discussions from netizens about whether it’s worth the money. Recently, Malaysian netizens have turned their attention to the Indonesian fast food chain Richeese Factory on whether this chicken shop deserves love from the locals.

A Twitter user recently brought up the topic of Richeese Factory and how the Indonesian fried chicken chain has expanded in Malaysia at an unbelievable rate. For those unfamiliar, Richeese Factory is a fast food chain that originated in Indonesia but began expansion in Malaysia in 2023. They specialise in chicken menu items, with their signature being fried chicken covered in a spicy sauce and served with cheese sauce. As of September 2024, the restaurant has over 30 outlets in Malaysia.

In the tweet, the user asked netizens who tried the restaurant’s menu item their opinion on the food and whether they’d recommend it to others. The tweet has since garnered over 500,000 views and hundreds of replies with mixed reactions. Some fried chicken and spicy food fans gave the thumbs up, mostly praising the restaurant’s signature item, the Fire Chicken. Many also said the whole fried chicken is worth a try. Others commended the side dishes, particularly the mashed potatoes, saying they’re better than another renowned fried chicken chain.

However, many lamented that the menu items at Richeese Factory are nothing special and aren’t worth a second trip. Some shared that the food is overpriced and people can get cheaper eats elsewhere. On the other hand, some said their overall experience was just so-so. One netizen added that while he’s not a huge fan, he still supports the brand as it’s from a neighbouring Southeast Asian country.

Regardless of what netizens think of Richeese Factory, the chain continues its dominance in the Malaysian market, with more outlets opening soon. What are your thoughts on the restaurant? Would you chop or drop the brand?
