K-pop enthusiasts and industry insiders alike have been buzzing about the recent success of the international girl group KATSEYE (캣츠아이). And it seems that it’s thanks to Netflix’s new docu-series “Pop Star Academy”, which is playing a significant role in their rising popularity.
Released on 21st August, “Pop Star Academy” documents the group’s journey from their pre-debut days through the formation of KATSEYE, including the emotional and sometimes contentious interactions among the members. Initially, concerns were raised that the show’s portrayal of conflicts, particularly involving member Manon, could negatively impact the group’s early success.

However, the data following the series premiere indicates a positive turn for them. The group’s YouTube channel has seen a noticeable increase in new followers and views. Furthermore, their social media presence has also grown substantially, with their Instagram account experiencing a surge of over 20,000 new followers each day since the show aired.
The rise in followers and engagement suggests that “Pop Star Academy” has not only captured viewers’ interest but has also driven a significant increase in support for KATSEYE, proving that the series has helped rather than hindered their popularity. This unexpected boost highlights the power of behind-the-scenes storytelling in building a stronger connection between artists and their audiences.
Building on this momentum, their debut EP, SIS (Soft Is Strong), also found success amongst K-pop fans. The album features five tracks, with “Debut” and “Touch” standing out with their upbeat, catchy melodies that exude confidence, making them perfect for a summer release. “Touch” also found success on social media, with many stars and fans taking part in the dance challenge.
