Famed Hong Kong star Andy Lau (刘德华) is in the news for his concert again – though it’s not the kind of attention he might have hoped for. After giving fans and friends the shock of their lives from almost falling off a 4-metre-high platform, the singer once again has fans worried as he performed on a lift platform.
Andy is embarking on his “Today…is the Day” tour, and he most recently performed in Beijing, China. During a performance of his song “Forever True (真永远)”, the star stood on top of a circular lift platform, which slowly extended and took him up about 6 metres from the stage. While lift platforms are common for concerts, safety measures are typically taken to ensure the performance doesn’t fall.

However, Andy may have gotten too absorbed in singing because when he performed his song, he started moving and almost stepped out of the platform. Thankfully, the singer caught himself and stepped back before moving too far out of the platform. The public figure also managed to maintain a calm expression, perhaps not to freak out the crowd. However, he then held onto the handrail tightly before continuing his song.
Fortunately, nothing happened to the star, and he safely completed his performance without much issue. However, the scene from the concert had many fans worried about Andy’s safety. Some urged the 63-year-old not to move too much when he’s so high up in the air, adding that the concert stage isn’t a movie set and there aren’t cushions at the bottom to protect him. Others asked the stage production to stop building such dangerous stages or at least add other safety measures like a belt.

Previously, Andy Lau nearly took a dangerous fall from a similar platform that stood at 4 metres high. The stunt had many in shock, including wife Carol Chu. While we understand that lift platforms can add dramatic flair to the show, we hope Andy and his team will be more cautious.
