There’s no doubt that the K-pop industry has a lot of skilled and talented idols. However, GOT7 (갓세븐) member BamBam (뱀뱀/แบมแบม) may just be the rare few to possess a specific skill – being able to open a fresh durian like a pro!
The Thai idol was recently in Malaysia for the Redmi Iconic Fan Meet event at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. While in town, BamBam took the opportunity to dine on his favourite fruit, the durian. The 27-year-old took to Instagram to share his durian-eating adventure and showcase his durian opening skills. In the video, BamBam looked natural when handling the durian, even knocking on the shell to check the fruit’s ripeness.

He then cracked the thorny fruit open, revealing the golden flesh inside. Before grabbing a piece of the durian, BamBam leaned in to get a whiff of the fruit and looked almost pleased at the pungency. After biting into the durian, BamBam even shouted out, “That’s crazy good!” in Korean, showing how delicious the durian was. Towards the end of the video, the GOT7 member started happily offering the fruit to the staff around him.
The video attracted the attention of both fans and Malaysians, who were excited to see the singer have a field day with the durian. Many were impressed with BamBam’s durian opening skills, even joking that they almost mistook the idol for a Malaysian because of how naturally he opened the fruit. However, some fans said his durian opening skills are a given since the idol was born and raised in Thailand, where durians are also well-loved.
Of course, durians weren’t the only thing on the menu for BamBam while he was in Malaysia. Through his Twitter account, the idol also revealed that he had bak kut teh, writing, “Bak Kut Teh is bomb” with an added fire emoji to show how much he enjoyed the dish. While some fans did recommend he try other local dishes like nasi lemak and roti tisu, it’s unsure whether he ate those when he was here.

The K-pop idol is no longer in Malaysia – but we’re glad he managed to make the most of his short trip. Here’s to hoping that BamBam will show more of his durian opening skills the next time he’s in town!
