The craze for Jay Chou (周杰倫) concert tickets continues! If you haven’t heard, the ticket sale for the Mandopop icon’s “Carnival World Tour In Kuala Lumpur” went live Tuesday (4th June) morning and sold out within the same day. However, many fans missed out on tickets, citing issues with the ticketing system. On the other hand, those who did get tickets to the show are already reselling them at increased prices. Here’s what we found so far:
It’s worth noting that the original price for the most expensive ticket is RM1138, excluding processing fees. The rest of the tickets are priced at RM988 (CAT2), RM838 (CAT3), RM688 (CAT4), RM588 (CAT5), RM488 (CAT6) and RM388 (CAT7). Within a day after tickets sold out, scalpers have already begun reselling tickets on unauthorised third-party sites. A search through Carousell shows single passes selling up to three times the original price. The most expensive ticket found being resold on the site was a single CAT1 ticket at around RM3,000.
There were also users selling other categories for over RM1,000 each, including one person selling CAT3 tickets at a RM400 markup for RM1,200. Unfortunately, the prices go even higher on Viagogo, with scalpers selling tickets for up to RM23,000 per ticket. According to the listing, the ticket is for a CAT1 seat in the fifth row on the A5 zone, arguably one of the best seats in the stadium. Of course, that doesn’t excuse the almost x20 markup – and thankfully, many Jay Chou fans also share the same sentiment.
One XiaoHongShu user recently shared their reaction to a scalper offering CAT1 tickets for RM25,000 each. The scalper also sold other categories for at least three times the original price. In the post, the fan wrote that she’ll forgo seeing Jay Chou after seeing how much the ticket was. Netizens also reacted to the prices, saying that one could buy a car with that amount. One person even jokingly asked whether the RM25,000 price tag included a chance to sit on Jay Chou’s lap for a personal serenade.
Meanwhile, the concert organiser and its ticketing partner have urged fans not to purchase from scalpers and unauthorised third-party sellers because it puts them at risk of receiving invalid tickets. What are your thoughts on these resale prices?
