Heads up to the fans of Chinese actress Fan Bingbing (范冰冰)! Here’s your chance to meet the star in Malaysia next month! The public figure will reportedly visit Melaka in June in conjunction with her appointment as the tourism ambassador for the state.
The news was shared by the chief minister of Melaka, Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, on his Facebook page. In the post dated 27th May, the politician revealed that he had met up with Fan Bingbing’s agent, Jersey Chong, to discuss the actress’ visit to the state next month. According to the post, Fan Bingbing will visit Melaka from 14th to 16th June, but there are no additional details on where the star will head to.
In the same post, Ab Rauf also announced that the state has appointed Fan Bingbing as the ambassador for the Visit Melaka 2024 campaign. It seems that the Melaka government hopes to use the celebrity’s popularity to attract more tourists, particularly from China and Asia, to visit the state. Unfortunately, the post didn’t provide information about the appointment.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time the internationally renowned actress was tasked with a tourism-related role in Southeast Asia. Fan Bingbing previously participated in the Songkran parade in Bangkok as a special guest of the Tourism Authority of Thailand. She also met with the Sultan of Johor – now Yang di-Pertuan Agong – Sultan Ibrahim last December. However, that visit was reportedly part of her engagements at the 34th Singapore International Film Festival and wasn’t related to tourism.
Nevertheless, we hope that Fan Bingbing’s appointment will have a positive impact on the state of Melaka and their tourism. Are you excited to meet the star in Melaka?
