Festivals are a great way to unite concertgoers and music lovers from all walks of life. Earlier this month, the Banyak Bagus Festival launched their first-ever 2-day event that took place at MIECC, Kuala Lumpur. Organising a festival is not easy and sadly, fans were extremely disappointed by how this event turned out.
Yesterday (Monday, 6th May), a netizen who goes by @/justkelonly posted a thread on Twitter to detail their experiences at the Banyak Bagus Festival. According to the post, the event was described as “the worst festival ever”. Here’s what happened:
One of the problems fans faced was the meet-and-greet sessions with the artists that apparently took place at Palm Garden Hotel, which is a 15-minute drive from the festival. According to the schedule, ticket redemption started at 9:30am but the meet-and-greet sessions begun at 10am which means winners had to queue very early at the festival to collect their tickets before rushing to meet their idols at the hotel.
Unfortunately, out of the 14 artists, only two of the lineups were able to attend the meet-and-greet session. If that wasn’t bad enough, fans were given two different queue cards for the session which caused a lot of confusion. At the festival itself, apparently, there was a 3-hour delay. The doors were scheduled to be opened at 2:30pm but fans were only allowed in at 5:30pm. Rather than providing the starving and tired concertgoers with some snacks and drinks, the organisers instead sold them mineral water bottles for RM4 each.
As for the stage itself, it was described as being horrendous with a lot of technical difficulties. Still, no criticism was directed towards the performers as they gave their best despite everything. Speaking of performers, @/justkelonly also provided some screenshots of the conversation a fan had with the organiser on Instagram. As seen in the screenshots, the admin apparently blamed one of the artists, calling them “emo” for some of the mishaps that happened that day.
If you think Day 2 would be an improvement, think again. According to the thread, there were still a lot of miscommunications regarding the meet-and-greet sessions. When contacted through IG, the Banyak Bagus Festival admin disclosed that the artists were “fighting with each other” behind the scenes, seemingly placing the blame onto them for any inconvenience.
The thread went viral with many agreeing how much a disaster the festival was, especially on the first day. Some shared responses they received from the organiser on IG while others recalled things they’ve personally experienced during the weekend event.
Banyak Bagus Festival responded to the overwhelming backlash in a statement saying, “We apologise for all the miscommunications that have caused the controversy and for any inconvenience following the festival. We hope to be given a chance to make it all better in the future”.
At the time of writing, none of the artists, who performed at the Banyak Bagus Festival, had anything to say about the event or the claims made by the organiser. Let’s just hope nothing like this ever happens again.
Here are clips of some of the performances during the festival:
