Yesterday (Thursday, 2nd May), it was reported that national football player Akhyar Rashid was attacked and robbed while he was out and about in Kuala Terengganu. According to reports, it was believed that he was beaten with a baton by an unknown individual.
The 25-year-old was then rushed to the nearest hospital where he was also accompanied by his girlfriend actress Eyka Farhana. As seen in photos and videos that’s been circulating on social media, the athlete sustained injuries on his head and left foot which led many to speculate that this may be a targeted attack. Here’s why:
Last night, Twitter user @/433Malaysia updated football fans about Akhyar Rashid’s condition with a video that showed the football player in a wheelchair at a hospital holding a tissue to his head to stop it from bleeding. Many offered their thoughts and prayers to the Kedah-born striker but others suspected that there may be something more to the motive of the attack than just robbing him.
As seen in the screenshots below, fans believed that there may be crazed fanatics who wanted to sabotage the next big football match by injuring one of the Terengganu Football Club’s players. Many found it suspicious how the athlete had lived peacefully in Johor when he was playing for the team but was then suddenly attacked in Terengganu after being appointed as the new striker. Some pointed out that armed robbery cases rarely happen in the state which led them to believe that this may be a targeted attack.
The incident is still being investigated by local authorities so there hasn’t been much update. Neither Akhyar Rashid, Eyka Farhana nor the Football Association of Malaysia have released an official statement about the case. If this actually did turn out to be some sort of foul play, then we can only hope that appropriate action will be taken against these criminals.
