As popular as he is, Malaysian-born star Namewee does have his share of critics who aren’t too pleased with his outspoken personality and unconventional ways. Given his reputation, could it be possible for the controversial figure to be the target of an attack while on the streets in broad daylight?
According to the Taiwanese news outlet CTWANT, Namewee was recently spotted in Taipei for work purposes. The performer, whose real name is Huang Meng Chee (黃明志), was strolling the city streets with several staff members when two men suddenly approached him. The men wore black clothing and had wooden swords and umbrellas. While one of the men distracted him, the other bolted towards Namewee and began chasing him.
However, the men only chased Namewee and, at most, tried to grab the star despite carrying “weapons”. CTWANT reported that it was even more suspicious that Namewee’s assistants didn’t try to protect the star or stop the unknown men. One female staff member also took out her phone and started recording the scene while smiling. The news outlet concluded that Namewee and the men had staged the chase scene.
After the “chase scene”, the group headed to a nearby alleyway for a chat and smoke break. According to photos taken by the news outlet, Namewee and his staff members were also reviewing the footage they took during the chase scene. CTWANT noted that the singer-actor seemed pleased with the results. The group continued to chat for a while before leaving the scene in a taxi.
Thankfully, Namewee wasn’t a victim of an attack, and everything was just part of his plan. Unfortunately, he hasn’t shared anything regarding the “chase scene” – so it looks like we’ll have to wait to find out what it’s all about.
