Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh (杨紫琼) made history this time last year when she won an Oscar for her performance in “Everything Everywhere All At Once”. Despite not being nominated this year, the 61-year-old still made quite an impression with her stunning outfit on the red carpet!
As a previous winner for the Best Actress category, Michelle Yeoh was at the 96th Academy Awards ceremony, held on 11th March, to present the 2024 winner. Her appearance on the red carpet left many breathless and gave us a rather cute reunion with an excited Ariana Grande.

Michelle Yeoh arrived at the event in an elegant custom Balenciaga Couture piece, a silver sequined one-shoulder gown, immediately garnering the attention of those present. Adding to her sophisticated looks were a pair of black opera gloves and one of her own Richard Mille watches. As a final touch, she wore a pair of leaf-shaped earrings designed by Taiwanese jewelry designer Cindy Chao.
While many were left stunned by her red carpet looks, her appearance sparked excitement with American singer-songwriter Ariana Grande instead. The singer had been mid-way through an interview when she caught sight of the other actress and had immediately gasped upon seeing her “Wicked” castmate.
The duo greeted each other with a warm hug and a cheek kiss, both clearly overjoyed at being able to meet each other again. “She’s unbelievable in these movies, you have no idea,” Ariana told the interviewer. Michelle too did not shy away from praising Ariana, even saying, “You look (like a) princess, my princess,” and drew Ariana in for another hug.

During the Oscars, Michelle and her fellow Best Actress winners were delighted to announce Emma Stone’s win for “Poor Things”, which also picked up another three awards. However, the biggest winner of the night was “Oppenheimer”, which swept up seven awards, including for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor.
Well, it’s a delight to see Michelle Yeoh enjoying herself at the Oscars and reuniting with castmates and friends alike. Her win last year is still a point of pride for all Malaysians, and we wish her well as we look forward to seeing what else she will bring to the table.
