Malaysian singer Jeryl Lee Pei Ling (李佩玲) made her debut after her performance in “The Next 2023 (舞台2023)” amazed many. Still riding on her momentum, she then started her “Breakthrough (冲破)” Asia tour this year. Yet, as is apt to happen, she’s apparently stepped on some toes.
Jeryl Lee’s concert has been going well so far, and she was slated to perform in Nanjing on 2nd March. Unfortunately, there have been claims that she gave away 200 free tickets due to its poor box office. Needless to say, fans weren’t impressed.
Reportedly, as her box office was poorer than expected, concert app Damai (大麦) launched a free viewing for her concert. Allegedly, 200 tickets were given out for free, which supposedly angered fans who had shelled out money for it. Well, Jeryl has since address the concerns on her Instagram, explaining the reason for the free tickets.
“I know very well that I am still a newcomer; my popularity is indeed not the best,” the 24-year-old singer admitted. “I need to put in more effort to create my own (space).” But, as those working with her to make her dream a reality did not want her to be disappointed, they opted to cooperate with various businesses to give away the tickets. “We didn’t think (we were) exploiting people, we just wanted to get things to be done,” she said.
She thanked everyone who had been willing to pay for her concert ticket. “Every penny you spend for me is in my heart. I cherish every interaction with you. Singing with you is the most touching scene for me. I hear you,” she told them. She also thanked her audience at the Nanjing show. “Whether you are a fan who has liked me for a long time and are willing to buy (my) tickets, or friends who have just met me, I am very grateful that you are willing to spend your precious time to listen to my music story,” she said.
Fans and friends have since flooded her comments section with encouragement. Several praised Jeryl Lee’s for her singing skills, with many announcing their support for her. A few have also asked her to do a concert in Malaysia soon.
Well, starting out can be difficult in the entertainment scene, especially as you are competing with some several years your senior. But, we hope Jeryl will keep up her efforts and hopefully, she’ll come to Malaysia to show off her talent too!
