One of the things Resorts World Genting has always been known for are its gambling halls. As such, it came as a surprise when yesterday (28th February), it was revealed that two of its three casinos were being closed.
According to reports, the Resorts World Genting website uploaded a brief statement claiming Genting Casino 1 (Circus Palace) and Genting Casino 2 (Hollywood) would be closed, effective 28th February. It was strongly believed the casinos were closing permanently, but the group has since issued a clarification about the closures.
The initial report only stated that the two casinos were closing and urged patrons to visit the newer and more modern SkyCasino. At the time, no explanation was given regarding the closure. Some speculated the gaming hubs were being closed due to dwindling patronage, others claimed it was because they were so run down. A few also believed it was the government’s doing.
However, the Resorts World Genting group soon announced their reasons for closing Genting Casino 1 and Genting Casino 2. As it turns out, they are currently aiming to upgrade their facilities, hence the abrupt and sudden closure.
“In our ongoing effort to improve our operational efficiency and enhance the gaming and entertainment experience for our guests, we continuously upgrade our facilities. This will involve temporarily closing certain sections of our casino to facilitate the improvements,” they stated on their website. “Our gaming operations continue to operate as usual.”
Well, it seems Resorts World Genting will continue to be the the popular gaming hub here in Malaysia, after they’re done with their upgrades. But, will these older gaming halls ever achieve the amount of patrons they did before? That remains to be seen.
