There are only a few more days to go till Ed Sheeran’s long-awaited Kuala Lumpur concert for his ‘The +–=÷× Tour’ (The Mathematics Tour). Just last week, the Grammy-winning songwriter was in neighbouring Singapore for the country’s leg of the tour.
Recently, the singer shared a vlog of him exploring the sights and food in Singapore. As shown in the video on Instagram, Ed also visited a cafe and a hawker centre to try several local delights. Singaporean content creator Denise Teo served as his tour guide for the day.
In the first half of the video, the two were at a cafe where Ed tried his hands on making teh tarik (pulled milk tea). There, the vocalist showed off his tea-pulling skills, even impressing the cafe staff. Ed and Denise then head to the Lau Pa Sat Hawker Centre to check out some food, including chicken rice, laksa, satay and kaya toast. Despite being vastly different from Western cuisine, the English star was impressed by the food and complimented on the flavours of each item.
Many have reacted positively to the video, showing excitement to see the laid-back nature of the star. However, the video also piqued the interest of Malaysian fans who can’t help poking fun at the fact that the food that Ed tried in Singapore was also local delights here in our country. Some even said that he should try the “authentic” version of the dishes in Malaysia instead.
Unfortunately, these comments did lead to some banter amongst Malaysian and Singaporean fans. Despite the minor disagreement, many were generally happy that the singer managed to try out local fares during his busy schedule.
The singer will perform at the National Stadium Bukit Jalil this Saturday with special guest Calum Scott. If you’re attending the concert, check out our pre-show guide to know what to expect.
