Taiwanese singers Jay Chou (周杰伦) and Jolin Tsai (蔡依林) took the world by surprise when it was revealed they were seeing each other. However, their relationship, affectionally dubbed “Double J Love (双J恋)” by their fans didn’t last.
Breakups between celebs aren’t unusual but Jay Chou and Jolin Tsai’s caused a stir as Jay Chou rumouredly did it to get together with journalist Patty Hou (侯佩岑). But, a netizen with insider information recently claimed there was more to the story!
A few days ago, someone had apparently been re-watching an old clip of Jolin Tsai performing at Jay Chou’s 2010 concert when a thought occurred to them. As they shared online: “Patty Hou likes Prince Chou, Hannah Quinlivan likes Superstar Chou, only Jolin Tsai likes Chou with his head lowered.”
This prompted another netizen, who claimed to have insider information, to share a different reason as to why Jay Chou and Jolin had broken up. According to them, they had heard about it from their grandmother’s friend who was best friends with Jay Chou’s mother. Allegedly, the singer had even visited the grandmother’s house when he was a child.
“It’s because Jolin Tsai’s father felt Chou was not qualified at the time, and not worthy of the Tsai family. He strictly opposed them being together. It’s not because Jay Chou was a scumbag and a cheater,” they claimed. “Of course, you can decide whether to believe it or not,” they added. “I’m just telling (you) the truth as I know it.” The news has since left netizens stunned.
Some have expressed their doubts, but others said the new reason has soothed old hurts. “As a Jay Chou fan, this answer gives me peace of mind,” one admitted. A few also wondered if this had been the inspiration behind Chou’s “I’m Not Worthy (我不配)” song.
It’ll certainly be difficult to verify the claim, more so since Jolin Tsai herself had alluded to Jay Chou cheating on her. Regardless, we should let bygones be bygones and we wish both singers well and hope they continue living happy, fulfilling lives.
