Tragic news came out of Kota Kemuning yesterday after a man was found dead at the entrance of a CIMB Bank branch in the area. Authorities believed the man’s death was an accident caused by the bank’s automatic shutters.
According to Shah Alam Police Chief Assistant Commissioner (ACP) Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim, the police received information about the incident on the morning of 2nd January at about 7:29am. Witness found the man lying down in front of the entrance to the bank’s ATM area. Checks on CCTV revealed that the man, believed to be homeless, appeared drunk and was lying down where he was found at about 11:48pm the night before.
Unfortunately for the man, the area he was lying in was where the automatic shutters were. When the shutter deployed at 12:01am, it struck him in the neck and caused him to get trapped between the shutter and the floor. The exact time of death was unknown, but the man was trapped there until the shutters opened automatically at 6am.
Medical personnel from the Klang General Hospital were also at the scene of the crime, where they officially declared the man dead. ACP Mohd Idbal added that medical personnel didn’t find any other injuries on the victim’s body. The case was classified as a sudden death as authorities believed that there were no criminal elements to the case.
Police did not find any personal identification documents on the scene but suspect that the victim is a foreigner, estimated to be around 50 to 60 years old. Police are urging anyone with information about the victim or the case to contact Investigating Officer Inspector Mohd Shahrul at 012-3630512 to help with the investigation.
