When we need help with something, we’d call on someone suitable for the task – whether it’s fixing a washing machine or painting a house. Well, this man in Bangi can do all that – plus take you to the hospital or even accompany you shopping.

Muhd Sufi Shafai is a 34-year-old man who charges an hourly fee. According to Sufi, he charges RM23 to RM25 per hour to anyone, regardless of gender or age, to accompany them to an event or run some errands. He said, “Those without a partner or a friend can “rent” me for company”. Most of his customers are people who typically just need some companionship or help with some tasks. Sufi, who used to work as a personal driver, told the news portal mStar the rental service feels like an addition to his previous job.

For example, one of Sufi’s recent customers was a woman who paid him to be her driver and accompany her as she shopped and dined at IOI City Mall in Putrajaya. The rental service is also a hit with the elderly crowd that needs someone to help run errands or bring them to medical checkups. Sufi said he also once got a booking from an elderly named Pak Ali, as the elderly man needed someone to drive him to the post office, bank and the clinic. However, the 34-year-old said his services also include housework and maintenance such as cleaning and cutting grass.

Interestingly, Sufi’s wife Mastura also offers a similar service. They have been working odd tasks for the past six months to earn a living after quitting their jobs. They used to advertise their services in Facebook groups but now can rely on word of mouth from their previous clients. They only offer services to clients in Nilai, Kajang and Bangi, with a limit of 5 bookings each day. Sufi said he and his wife now earn around RM3,000 a month but hopes their rental services can continue to thrive.

It might not be conventional, but it’s still honest work – so we wish the best of luck to Sufi and Mastura in their business!
