Korean actor Lee Sun-Gyun (이선균), known for his role in the Oscar-winning film “Parasite”, was found dead in a parked car in Seoul, South Korea. He was 48. According to Yonhap News Agency, police received an emergency call at around 10:12am KST from a woman lodging a report of a missing person.

The woman said she lost contact with her husband, who left the house after writing what was assumed to be a will. Reports later revealed the woman to be Lee Sun-Gyun’s wife, actress Jeon Hye-Jin (전혜진), who said she last heard from her husband the night before.

At around 10:30am KST, the Seoul Seongbuk Police Station reported that they found a man unconscious inside a car parked at Waryong Park in Seoul. Police later confirmed that the man in question was Lee Sun-Gyun. Shortly after the discovery, the late actor’s body was transported to a hospital for an autopsy.

Inside the actor’s car, police also found evidence of lit charcoal briquettes, which further suggests that his death may have been a suicide. Since October, the “Parasite” star had been under investigation by the police on charges of illegal drug use. While his drug tests were negative, Lee Sun-Gyun faced heavy scrutiny from the public, who remained critical of the late star during investigations. His most recent public appearance was during his questioning last Saturday.

Lee Sun-Gyun made his acting debut in 2002 and was known for his roles in hit Korean dramas like “Coffee Prince”, “Pasta” and “My Mister”. He gained international popularity after appearing in the critically acclaimed movie Parasite. The role earned him a Screen Actor Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, along with his co-stars. The actor leaves behind his wife and two children.
