Your honeymoon is easily one of the most exciting things to look forward to after getting married – but unfortunately for this couple, they had to miss out on their honeymoon because of a small mistake.
Newlywed Fikry Azman took to TikTok to share the sad news that he and his wife had to skip their honeymoon, all because his passport was wet. According to the video, the two were supposed to fly to Turkey (Turkiye) last Sunday (17th December) for their honeymoon and a joint birthday celebration. However, they were not allowed to board because the wet passport is considered water damage, one of the few reasons immigration counters could void a passport.

Fikry, who works in Singapore and travels back and forth between Singapore and Johor Bahru, explained that his passport was wet because he got caught in the rain the day before his trip. In an interview with local media, Fikry shared that his bag wasn’t waterproof and his passport didn’t have a cover, causing about 80% of the passport to get wet. As he and his wife were in a rush to prepare for the trip and head out to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) for their flight, the 29-year-old didn’t think to dry out his passport.
He had only remembered about his wet passport when the couple arrived at the airport. He even tried to use the hand dryer in the restroom to speed up the drying process. However, his effort was in vain because when it came time to check in, the staff notified him that he couldn’t board the flight. According to Fikry, the 9-day trip was a group trip booked via a travel agency, so the couple couldn’t reschedule. He also revealed that the cancelled trip caused the couple to burn RM16,000.
Fikry said the incident was so saddening that he started crying at the airport. He also said he felt sorry for his wife as the two planned for the trip before they got married. In the comments for his video, netizens shared their sympathy for the young couple but hoped that another opportunity would come in the future.

If you are planning to travel overseas soon, we hope Fikry’s video will be a good reminder for you to always be careful with your passport.
