Malaysia, specifically Kuala Lumpur, boasts a variety of international cuisine options – but many of us may not have had the opportunity to try Central Asian cuisine. While those curious could check out the few Central Asian restaurants available, local actor Fadlan Hazim’s introduction to Kazakhstan cuisine starts at home.
The 31-year-old is married to a Kazakhstan native and has shared many videos showing Kazakh culture. Recently, he shared yet another video introducing Kazakhstan culture to Malaysians, this time offering his perspective into the cuisine. In his TikTok video, the actor showed off several traditional Kazakh dishes, including beshbarmak, khachapuri and horse meat.

Fadlan starts by trying out beshbarmak, a dish of boiled meat, dough and an onion sauce. While the actor didn’t film himself eating the dish, he did include a clip of his wife, Aiya, putting together a bite of beshbarmak. The celeb then tried out the horse meat and ate it with gusto, showing how much he enjoyed it. He also tried khachapuri, a cheese-filled bread similar to cheese naan. However, the celeb admitted the dish is better than cheese naan, in his opinion.
The video went viral, garnering over 1 million views and thousands of comments. Many were focused on the horse meat, wondering about the taste and texture of the protein. Some had even questioned the halal status of horse meat – but rest assured, it is permissible for Muslims. Interestingly, there were a few who have tried the protein but provided different opinions about it.
Would you be down to try horse meat or the other Kazakhstan food Fadlan showed in his video?
