Local entrepreneur Liana Rosli, a.k.a Kak KM, is no stranger to criticisms online – from comments about her behaviour to talks about how she dresses. Most recently, netizens are slamming her for supposedly going against Islamic beliefs.
In a video on her Instagram, the entrepreneur was advertising a vacant land she said would make a good investment. According to the video, the land is on top of a hill and faces a lake. However, in both the video and the caption, Kak KM specifically used feng shui to promote the land, even saying the land would bring the buyers lots of wealth for the rest of their lives.
For your information, feng shui is a traditional Chinese practice that uses the surrounding environment to determine the energy of the place. However, feng shui is considered a superstitious belief in Islam that Muslims are forbidden to take part in. While Kak KM did not directly admit to believing in feng shui, her statement in the video and the captions still led many Malay netizens to criticise her for promoting the belief.
Many comments criticised her for believing in feng shui and reminding the public figure that the practice is against Islamic teachings. Apart from going against Islamic beliefs, some netizens have also called out Kak KM for visiting a Starbucks outlet, which many are boycotting due to its support for Israel in the ongoing Palestine-Israel war.
Following the backlash, Kak KM posted another set of videos, defending herself from the backlash. She was seen condemning the netizens who slammed her for using feng shui and claiming it would bring wealth. She also mocked netizens and said they shouldn’t comment on anything if they don’t understand property and business. She also suggested that the online trolls are simply jealous of her wealth.
Of course, that only added more fuel to the fire, resulting in more criticism from netizens. Some said Kak KM should accept the advice from her fellow Muslims instead of talking back or mocking them. Some said the comments are not from jealousy or hatred like the businesswoman claims. However, some supporters sided with Kak KM, saying that netizens shouldn’t criticise her so easily.
What do you think about this? Are Muslim netizens right to condemn Kak KM?
