When someone visits Kuala Lumpur, they have a list of things to do and places to visit. Oftentimes, that includes visiting the iconic Petronas Twin Towers – more familiarly known as the KLCC Twin Towers. However, some people may find the landmark to be a little overrated.

Jade, a.k.a hamburgerspaceships on TikTok, is an American who spent a few months travelling Malaysia. After her experience, she gave a few suggestions on what tourists should really do when visiting Kuala Lumpur. In her post, the American said tourists should skip the KLCC Twin Tower because, while it is “pretty”, there are way more exciting things to check out.

She continued her post with mainly food-related suggestions, starting with trying roti canai, especially roti milo, which she said tastes like a hot chocolate crepe. She then suggested visitors to explore Brickfields for authentic Indian food and look for stingrays and durian at Jalan Alor.

Sticking to the food theme, Jade also suggested tourists check out a local mamak and the viral giant ice cream at Bukit Bintang if they want some pretty pictures for social media. The American traveller also suggested hitting a local hawker centre and ICC Pudu for delicious local fares. Jade ended her post by saying, “Why look at buildings when you can experience local culture by experiencing all the delicious things?”

Jade received several responses to her suggestions, with some agreeing that visitors should skip the KLCC Twin Towers and just check out the food. However, some said that tourists should still visit the iconic landmark, especially on their first visit.

What do you think about Jade’s advice? Do you think tourists should skip KLCC or should they still check it out?
