It’s no surprise that Malaysians love our fried chicken – and we also have some strong opinions on them. However, with so many chicken brands available in Malaysia alone, there’s no doubt that Malaysians have different opinions on which is the best.

So, through Twitter and Facebook, netizens began debating which fried chicken brand they prefer and why.

Many Malaysians’ answers leaned towards the bigger fast food chains like KFC, McDonald’s, Texas Chicken and A&W. However, despite KFC and McDonald’s being the more popular chains, Texas Chicken and A&W’s fried chicken got more votes from locals, noting that they offer bigger portions with more flavour. While KFC and McDonald’s did get a significant number of votes, some did mention the recent state of the two brands, particularly KFC and their lacklustre portions.

Other fast-food chains that got a good amount of votes from Malaysians were Jollibee, Richeese Factory and 4Fingers, which some netizens noted could easily top the more popular brands. Many Malaysians also chose local brands and chains like MarryBrown, Muiz Hot Chicken and Uncle Jack, calling these brands underrated. However, not everyone is keen on big brands because many netizens think the best fried chicken they’ve had was from their local mamak, restaurants and night markets.

There are plenty of other brands/stalls that were highlighted by Malaysians, so perhaps the fried chicken industry is more competitive than we thought. What do you think about this whole fried chicken conversation?
