Security guards are responsible for safeguarding a place and the people, so a video of a guard running away from a crime is bound to get people talking.

The video in question is CCTV footage taken from a UOB Bank branch in Ipoh. The footage showed two women conducting transactions at the ATM when an unknown man with a helmet entered the premises.

The armed man then took a knife from his pocket to threaten the women to hand over their money. However, in response to the robbery, the guard seemingly exited the bank once he recognised what was happening instead of approaching the robber to stop him.

After the video went viral, many netizens criticised the security guard’s supposed response to the robbery and mocked him for running away. However, it seemed that the guard had done the right thing because some netizens pointed out that he had distracted the robber to stop him from causing any more harm to the victims.

Upon a closer look at the video, the security guard diverted the robber’s attention by taunting him to a fight and getting him to exit the premises. By doing so, the two victims were left unharmed from the incident. A Facebook post by Ansar Nasir revealed that the bank management had even rewarded the security guard for his quick thinking.

The video also prompted a statement from local authorities, who provided more clarification on the incident. According to the press release, the robbery happened on 14th May 2023 at the Ipoh branch of a UOB Bank. However, the case is still under investigation and the robber is still on the run.
