No one likes to be cheated, especially by companies. As such, it’s unsurprising that there was some outrage after Jasmine Food Establishment Sdn Bhd was alleged to have repackaged local white rice as imported white rice.
Recently, a video of the Jasmine Food Establishment Sdn Bhd’s factory in Alor Setar has been going viral. The footage allegedly showed them repackaging local rice as imported rice. This has since prompted the company to make a statement regarding the issue to clarify things.
The video, reportedly shot on 2nd September, gained some traction thanks to its footage. It showed rice being unpackaged and poured into a heap while more empty packages were discarded at the back of the factory. Reportedly, it was believed that the factory was repackaging local rice to be sold as imported rice.
On 5th September, Jasmine Food Establishment Sdn Bhd released a statement to address the rumour. The rice brand denied the allegations, claiming the rumour was untrue. As it turns out, they were actually repackaging imported rice. “This process is made to ensure that the quality of rice produced by JFC is always in good condition when purchased by our customers,” the statement reportedly read.
Jasmine Food Establishment Sdn Bhd claimed it was common procedure to do so if the grains were broken or ground to dust. Additionally, they clarified it was also a policy of their to replace white rice supplied to wholesalers which does not meet the standards of quality set by the authorities.
The company has since firmly advised the public to not spread false information or make speculations which could cause confusion. Jasmine Food Establishment Sdn Bhd also claims they will not hesitate to take legal action against individuals who attempt to slander the good name of the company.
