Renting a home comes with some odd circumstances, but what would you do if the owner of the house you’re renting disappeared without a trace? Well, this man thought it’d be a good idea to sell the house he’s renting – or did he?
Taken from the Facebook group ‘Tukang Apa Hari Ini’, an anonymous man from Rawang, Selangor asked if tenants can receive a part in the homeownership if they sell the house they’re renting. He explained he was planning to sell the home he’s renting as he can no longer contact the homeowner.

According to the post, shared yesterday (13th August), the man and his family have been living there for free as the homeowner hasn’t collected rent since 2021. He added that the owner doesn’t have a wife, kids, or next of kin for him to contact. The post ended with the Facebook user asking about the procedure to sell the house or sublet it to another tenant.
Unsurprisingly, many of the responses were from angry individuals who were in disbelief that the man wanted to sell someone else’s property. Several said the anonymous man was ungrateful and taking advantage of the homeowner. Some suggested the man try searching for the homeowner’s family before selling the house.
However, a surprising development happened after the post went viral. As it turns out, the post was allegedly a social experiment to spread awareness about home ownership according to Islamic laws. The poster then shared several tips for anyone who might find themselves in a similar situation in the future.

Unfortunately, we cannot confirm whether the post was indeed a social experiment or a cover-up after the man was shamed by netizens. Regardless, it’s still useful to know what should be done should you face a similar situation where the homeowner suddenly disappears.
