The story of the man dragging his dog that was chained to his car blew up on social media. Netizens even exposed his identity and demanded he be brought to justice. Previously, the old man’s family, or his son, more specifically, refused to comment on the incident as the family was still dealing with the matter.
After much backlash from netizens, Shi Shanwen (transliteration), the son of the Heng Kee Roasted Pork’s restaurant owner, recently came forward to talk about the accusations.
Recently, Shi Shanwen wrote in a lengthy post on the restaurant’s Facebook page to explain the whole situation. He started off by apologising to the public for the late statement, listing 5 reasons why he didn’t provide an explanation sooner:
- He wasn’t there at the scene of the incident and did not wish to say anything inaccurate.
- The incident was not what everyone thought it was.
- His father is not a dog abuser but admits that his methods that day were wrong.
- He needed the public to calm down before he gave his family’s side of the story.
- His father filed a report on his own accord and had no intention of avoiding responsibilities.
The restaurant staff member, who is also known for his dance videos, said it was sad and unfortunate that the dog died because of his father’s mistake. He explained that the dog had been aggressive so his father wanted to transfer it to the other plantation, as previously reported. The animal apparently gave the old man a hard time so he thought would be easier to chain it to the back of his vehicle and drag it slowly to the destination.
According to Shi Shanwen, his father did not even realise that the dog was seriously injured until he was stopped by the other villagers. The old man did not resist and surrendered himself to the authorities when they arrived, however, he denied any claims of abusing the poor animal. While the accused’s son acknowledged his father’s mistake, he also criticised the other villagers for ganging up on his father instead of taking the dog to get treated.
Shi Shanwen insisted that his father loves dogs as the ones at the family’s plantation were rescued after being abandoned by previous owners. He also stated that his father is diabetic which means he’d have no energy to even consider harming animals. As for what happened to the dead dog, the old man had buried it but not at an unmarked grave as alleged by netizens.
The accused’s son ended the post by apologising to the public once again for his father’s actions and that his family has the right to take action against anyone who has spread slander and left abusive remarks towards them. One thing is certain, it will take some time for people to forgive the old man for what he did even if he did have no intention of harming the dog.
