Earlier this year, influencer Gatita Yan (Tong Lee Yan) shared with her followers her secrets of how she went from earning RM1.5k to millions. The DJ, who once worked at a phone shop for almost a decade, has proven that it’s very possible for anyone to become a millionaire once they set their minds on it.
Despite being rich, the Malaysian celeb got herself a new credit card and her recent Instagram stories of her flexing the new card did not sit well with netizens. Here’s the story:
Recently, former Onlyfans creator Gatita Yan posted several stories on her Instagram to show off her new American Express (AMEX) Platinum card which was delivered to her in a case. Shortly after receiving her exciting package, the content creator decided to go shopping for home appliances using her brand-new card.
During her shopping trip, the 30-year-old’s boyfriend apparently asked her if she’ll be paying via monthly installment or in a lump sum (bulk payment) to which she replied, “Do I still need monthly installment if I’m using AMEX? Of course lump sum payment!”
The public figure’s stories drew a lot of attention from netizens who felt there was absolutely no reason for her to show off her AMEX card to prove just how rich she is. Some advised her to keep a low profile as there are tons of rich people who don’t flex their wealth while others believe there’s nothing special about owning the card as she will still need to pay back the money to the bank.
For your information, not everyone is eligible to own an American Express card. According to Maybank, the user must first earn at least RM190,000 annually, where they also have to pay a fee of RM3,250 every year. With the platinum card, users can enjoy multiple benefits such as free golf at more than 100 clubs in 23 countries, and unlimited access to airport lounges around the world.
At the time of writing, Gatita has yet to respond to the criticism she received about her AMEX card. If given the chance, would you get yourself an AMEX Platinum card?
