A huge commotion happened yesterday (17th May 2023) when Mid Valley Megamall caught on fire. The fire broke out in the morning at the external TNB Substation in Mid Valley City, affecting the mall and its tenants. As such, Mid Valley was forced to closed down.
Although the fire has left obvious trace to the outer building, most of the shops and conditions in the mall were not affected at all. Mid Valley Megamall posted a message earlier today (18th May 2023) announcing the usual opening of the mall.
According to Oriental Daily, the Mid Valley Megamall is still crowded with people as usual for today despite yesterday’s commotion. Even GSC cinemas, which was forced to closed down suddenly, is back to business today. To express their sincere apologies for the sudden shut down yesterday, GSC is offering refund and free popcorn to those who bought a movie ticket on the 17th In Mid Valley’s GSC cinemas.
As long as a movie ticket or related receipt is shown to the counter within 7 days of purchase, one will be able to get a refund. And if a new movie ticket is purchased in replacement, customers can redeem a free popcorn with it. “Even though the fire happened yesterday morning in Mid Valley’s electric room, it did not affect us directly, but we’ve decided to close the cinemas for a day for the safety of our workers and customers,” a staff from GSC cinemas, Syuhada, said.
In regards of the fire alarm ringing because of the sudden fire, a worker in Mid Valley Megamall expressed their thoughts when that happened. “At first, I felt panic. However, before the fire story went viral, I thought it was just a false alarm.”
Due to most of the shops being some distance away from the fire, there were no serious damages or side effects. After clearance from relevant authorities regarding the safety of the mall, Mid Valley Megamall opened as usual from 10am to 10pm.
