Hong Kong actor Patrick Tse Ka Yuk (谢贤) has had quite the romantic life. From marrying twice to dating for over 12 years, the actor’s love life has always been the talk of the town. However, recently, many have been focusing on his former relationship with his ex-girlfriend, Coco, with most curious about why they broke up.
Patrick Tse’s relationship with the model from Shanghai startled many, mainly because she was 49 years younger than him. However, the duo had seemed very close in the 12 years they were together, as they were often spotted hugging and kissing in the street. But, in 2017 they chose to break up and recently, they revealed why.
The 86-year-old was initially married to his first wife Zhen Zhen (甄珍) for three years. Patrick then later tied the knot with Deborah Lee and had two kids by her, including famous actor Nicholas Tse (谢霆锋). Unfortunately, that came to an end after 16 years in 1996. Nine years later, Patrick was spotted with Coco who was 21 years old at the time.
Many had criticised their relationship in the beginning, with several claiming it was like a “grandfather and granddaughter” relationship. Nicholas himself claims he asked his dad about it too and was told “(people who curse) have a sick mind“. Despite the chatter, Patrick Tse continued his relationship with Coco, the duo seemingly taking no notice of others.
But when Coco turned 33, things changed. She allegedly wanted to start a family after seeing that all her same-age friends were mothers. Coco brought it up to Patrick. However, he strongly opposed the idea, alleging he was too old and could not live the married life again. He also realised that he did not want to delay Coco living her own life any longer, so he broke up with her.
People felt Coco had wasted the twelve years of her life with Patrick Tse and the actor clearly had thoughts along the same line. He reportedly got Nicholas to compensate Coco with a breakup fee worth 20 million. The actor also shared that he has not dated since, despite various media noting his devastation when they split up. In spite of their intimacy, Patrick claims their relationship had just been to relieve their loneliness.
Coco might possibly be Patrick’s last love, although not in the way many expected. Still, she is reportedly doing well for herself. However, it seems problems with romance run deep in the Tse family. Nicholas Tse himself hasn’t had the smoothest love life, despite many thinking he was perfect with Cecilia Cheung.
Regardless, we wish Patrick Tse well and hopes he manages to continue living a fulfilling life. After all, while romance is a large part of living, it isn’t the be all end all to life.
