When in Rome, do as the Romans do. However, it seems that while Singaporean Twitch streamer and content creator Kiaraakitty (啊貓咪) was in South Korea, she did not “do as they do”. The 21-year-old streamer was recently called out for dressing inappropriately while on the streets!
Kiaraakitty had apparently been streaming in public when she was stopped by a policewoman. As it turns out, someone had allegedly reported the live streamer for “having (her) boobs out”. Needless to say, the encounter left her quite shaken.
The streamer uploaded a short video of the encounter on her socials on 9th April. The clip had apparently been taken from her live stream, as she had been doing a stream while walking in Seoul. Kiaraakitty could be seen dressed in a white coat, a laced pink top and a rabbit headband. As she was walking and talking, two policemen approached her to stop her in her tracks.
They first spoke to her in Korean, however, Kiaraa seemed to have absolutely no idea of what they were saying. Despite her telling them she doesn’t speak Korean, Kiaraakitty still attempted to communicate with them, telling the cops she was in cosplay. “I’m going to a cosplay party,” she said. “It’s my first day here. I’ve never been to Korea before. I don’t know your law.” She also apologised several times.
The police then called up a translator from their police force to talk to Kiaraa. While her video ended there, another series of videos showed the call. The translator later told her that she had been reported for walking around in her underwear. “Of course not, why would I wear underwear?” Kiaraa said, sounding astounded. “That’s ridiculous.” She also explained she was wearing a “lace top” with a skirt and a coat.
Kiaraakitty later confided her feelings about the situation to her stream. She clarified that the police had not fined her and merely instructed her to wear her clothes properly. They also insisted she zip up her coat before leaving. However, the streamer was still miffed. “Obviously it’s some jealous bitches that (went) and complained about my tits,” she groused. “Like, shut the hell up and let me make my money!”
Still, the streamer did consider leaving Korea. “Let’s go to another country. Because, I don’t want to disturb the peace. I understand the law. So like, we’ll just go to another country. Like, its fine. I’m fine with that,” she said. Kiaraa also asked her audience if it looked like she was in underwear, panning the camera to show her skirt, knee socks and shoes.
Her Instagram Story later explained that she was leaving Korea early. “It was a frightening experience to be questioned by the police in Korea as someone reported me to the police for being naked,” Kiaraakitty explained. “False police reports (have) caused plenty of issues for IRL streamers (streamers who stream their lives), as (I’ve) seen many of them get ‘swatted’ (raided by SWAT teams) etc, it definitely triggered my PTSD.”
While some netizens echoed their concern for her, others were more preoccupied with Singapore’s reputation. Several gave her flak for not following South Korea’s laws. “Because you (are an) attention seeker, (you) don’t respect other (country’s’) law. In Singapore, you can follow the law,” one said. Another requested: “Please respect the culture and norms wherever you are.”
Others pointed out that her ignorance was not a pass for her to break the law. “In fact, some cops really hate that and they will be more annoying if you say that,” another commented. However, there were fans who supported Kiaraakitty’s dressing, opining that South Korea was too conservative.
This isn’t the first time Kiaraakitty has gotten into hot water over her streamer content. Previously, she got banned from streaming platform Twitch for eating a sausage. Well, while Kiaraa’s time in Korea ended on a sour note, we’re sure she’ll bounce back from it in time.
