BLACKPINK was in our area last Saturday (4th March) and we hope Malaysian BLINKs had an eventful evening! The girls set the stage ablaze (not literally though) at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium performing their all-time hits such as “How You Like That”, “DDU-DU DDU-DU”, “Lovesick Girls” and “Shut Down”.
Happening at the same time was the star-studded Malam Bulan Bintang Concert where Dato Siti Nurhaliza blew everyone away once again with her powerhouse vocals. BLINKs and Sitizoners both had an amazing night but some fans felt the need to pin the two artists against each other by comparing their live vocals. Here’s what happened:

After the BLACKPINK concert that happened over the weekend, some individuals on Twitter decided to start a fan war by comparing the K-pop idol group to Malaysia’s very own Dato Siti Nurhaliza. These netizens felt that the members could not sing live while doing choreography. One netizen, in particular, tweeted that BLACKPINK members are all-rounder performers while Siti is merely a vocalist.
This further added fuel to the flame of the fan war between the two fandoms. BLINKs obviously defended their idols while Sitizoners defended Malaysia’s no.1 singer. Fans of the girl group members stated that singing while doing choreography and touring the world is no easy task as it takes a lot of effort. Fans of the local legend on the other hand proved the singer’s capability by providing clips of her old performances.

While the heated debate was happening, the original posts have since been deleted and the Twitter users deactivated their accounts after receiving backlashes. However, despite many disagreeing with one another, there were also those who defended both artists by saying that they are skilled and talented in their own way and should not be compared to each other.

In other news, despite the two international artists being completely different from each other, there’s one thing they have in common. Both BLACKPINK and Dato Siti Nurhaliza’s concerts are two of the all-time highest-attended concerts in Stadium Nasional Bukit Jalil, Malaysia with the former having over 62k attendees and the latter with over 70k attendees.
So instead of pinning female artists against each other, how about we support and celebrate them for their achievements?
