Yesterday (1st March), Datuk Bill Ch’ng Chong Poh (庄宝)’s family revealed some shocking news. The renowned Malaysian tycoon had passed away from an illness at the age of 83.
The former CEO of Malaysia Pacific Corporation (MPCorp) was reportedly hospitalised after arriving in Hong Kong earlier this year. Datuk Bill Ch’ng had not been feeling well when he landed. Unfortunately, despite their care, he passed away.
An obituary was issued in the evening by the family. “My late father, Datuk Bill Ch’ng, passed away at Gleneagles Hospital on 28th February 2023,” the obituary read. It added that his body has since been transferred to the funeral parlour. Family and friends will be able to view the body at 5:30pm on 9th March. The funeral will be held the next day on 10th March around 10:30am.
Datuk Bill Ch’ng had gone to Hong Kong earlier this year. Unfortunately, he had felt unwell while there. He had supposedly been quietly admitted to the hospital. While hospitalised, his children, actresses Jacqueline Ch’ng (庄思敏), Lisa Ch’ng (庄思明) and their brother took turns visiting him.
Lisa’s fiancé Mat Yeung Ming (杨明) had also visited his future father-in-law. Unfortunately, that was the last time they managed to meet. Lisa had initially postponed her wedding with Yeung Ming as her father was unwell. Regretfully, he won’t be able to witness Lisa and Yeung Ming’s wedding.
