Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. So, it’s no surprise when people often attempt to make themselves prettier by using makeup, beauty filters, or the like. But like many things in life, too much of a good thing can be a bad thing.
Hong Kong actress Shirley Yeung (杨思琦) once made a name for herself when she won Miss Hong Kong in 2001. However, nowadays, she’s been keeping herself busy with cosplay instead. While she still cuts a pretty figure, the star has been using beauty filters for her pics. In fact, this recently got her criticised by netizens!

In 2001, Shirley was crowned Miss Hong Kong. Like many other ladies, she jumpstarted her career with TVB and grew her repertoire as an actress. But, in recent years, Shirley has faded from the film scene and has been mostly active on her socials. In addition to holding live broadcasts, and one-on-one online chats, Shirley has been cosplaying!
Her latest cosplay character was 赵敏 (transliteration: Zhao Min) from “倚天国龙记 (The Heaven Sword & the Dragon Sabre 2000)”. Although she looked rather stunning in her footage, netizens had rather different feelings about it.

Several claimed she looked like an AI figure with the filter. Others stated she looked unrealistic. “(It’s) too beautiful, it would be more (realistic) to reduce (the beauty) a little,” one netizen said, with another claiming they felt her photo was not of “a real person”. A comment also stated they “couldn’t tell it was her” thanks to the filter.

Well, at least Shirley looks like she’s having fun with her videos and photos! We’re not exactly certain if she will take netizens’ criticisms to heart, but as long as it’s not harming anyone, perhaps it would be fine to let it go once in a while.
