When you’re planning to go travelling, it’s important to set a budget for yourself. Most would opt for the cheapest budget hotels, homestays, or Airbnbs they can find online. As long as the room or unit is comfortable enough, you don’t really need anything too fancy to be able to spend the night.
But sometimes the experience may not be the most enjoyable as some of these budget accommodations are not exactly how you might’ve expected them to be. This TikToker recently shared his strange experience of staying in a shared dorm in KL.

Lifestyle TikToker @iamlim.xk or Ian recently posted a video on his channel sharing his experience staying in a shared dorm in Kuala Lumpur. The content creator revealed that he was on a solo trip and decided to stay in a dorm for a few nights which according to him cost about RM40 a night. Without specifying the location, he said that it was only within walking distance of KLCC.

In the video shown, the condominium the TikToker stayed in seemed fancy but the first strange thing he encountered was not having an access card to go up the lift to his unit and had to be escorted in by security after giving his details at the reception desk. Once reaching the unit, it looked decent enough for its price. However, the man was bewildered when he saw the state of the bedroom.
He was surprised to find 10 double-decker beds squeezed into one master bedroom. “It felt like I was living in a refugee camp,” he said in the video before proceeding to give a tour around the room. Each bed has 1 power outlet, 1 light, 1 curtain for privacy, and each guest was given 1 towel which he described, “smelled like cockroaches”.

Despite the strange bedroom setup, Ian gave a 10/10 rating for staff service saying that they were very friendly. While he couldn’t argue with the RM40-a-night price, netizens’ reactions were mixed. As seen in the screenshots above, some felt that the room was unsafe and questioned its legality while others agreed that you shouldn’t expect too much for a cheap price.
While the condominium was not explicitly mentioned in the video, it was shown at the start that it was the Mercu Summer Suites. The condo is a 6-minute walk from the Dang Wangi LRT and a 15-minute walk to Suria KLCC.
