Shopaholics – it looks like there’s gonna be a lot of things for you to look forward to this year! Now that we’re all back to work/school, life can get a bit hectic, which is why we all gotta go for some retail therapy from time to time. Malls are a great way for people to escape the dog days in Malaysia while being entertained by the many shops, eateries and entertainment centres all day long.
Recent years have seen a slew of massive shopping malls popping up here and there throughout the Klang Valley, and the trend is not slowing down anytime soon. Here are some new malls that are set to open in 2023 that you can spend your weekends at:
The Exchange TRX
Set to open by the fourth quarter of 2023, The Exchange TRX is the shiny new mall that will be offering consumers luxury retail in a space that elegantly blends nature and shopping. Sitting at the top of the shopping centre is a 10-acre rooftop park called TRX City Park, where they’re offering premium park dining, event spaces as well as recreational facilities.
The mall is set to feature over 450 stores – ranging from lifestyle retailers and concept stores, to eateries and entertainment spots – in its four-storey building. According to their website, Seibu Department Stores will be opening its first outlet in Malaysia, catering to fashion, beauty, and lifestyle, as well as introducing a Japanese food hall concept, depachika, to the country.
Location: Tun Razak Exchange, Kuala Lumpur.
Datum Jelatek
This mall had a soft opening last December. Directly linked to the Jelatek LRT Station, travelling there would be a breeze, since you wouldn’t be stressing out over finding a parking spot, especially during the weekends. Consisting of 712 luxury residential units, the iconic Sky Ring is located on the 27th floor, between its residential towers. The mall is made up of three floors, and it is reported that 70% of the commercial space has been occupied, and it’s expected to reach 95% by the end of 2023.
The Food Merchant is currently the first anchor tenant at the mall, bringing over 250 international brands in-store, where shoppers can experience a world of authentic international cuisine as they go through the aisles. Basically, it’s a neighbourhood mall where the choice of retailers is based on the demands of nearby consumers – so expect to see Premium Grocer, department stores, and outlets for health, fashion, beauty, food & beverage, entertainment and services.

Pavilion Damansara Heights
Pavilion has once again made another landmark with their new Pavilion Damansara Heights mall, which is set to launch in May 2023. According to them, 70% of the retail space has already received commitments, and the mall will eventually have around 380 retail outlets. One of the highlights of the mall will be its ease of transport, as it will soon merge with the Pusat Damansara Heights MRT station, where it’s linked to more than 100 train stations, most notably KL Sentral, which is only two stations away, and the Pavilion Bukit Bintang Station, which is 5 stations away. In close proximity to upscale neighbourhoods such as Bangsar, Bukit Tunku and Mont’ Kiara, it offers contemporary retail, curated dining, and customised leisure indulgences.

118 Mall
Another mall that consumers can look forward to is 118 Mall, a seven-story shopping mall that’s attached to Merdeka PNB 118. One of the key features of the shopping centre is a glass dome roof designed to bring in filtered natural light into the center of the mall. It will also include other tempting attractions, such as Eat Street, that offers both local and international al fresco dining, and the Malaysian Artisan District, a curated retail floor that focuses on Malaysian cuisine and heritage products. Consumers can also head on to their Observation Deck to get a view of the KL skyline after they’re done with their shopping. The mall will also include a dramatic multi-story water feature called The Raincloud that will definitely add to your shopping experience at the mall.
