If there’s one thing Malaysians have in common, it’s that we all share a love for good food! Whenever there is something new, delicious, and viral, many would flock to the place. Here at Hype, we even curate a weekly Hype Eats foodie list for you to go out and try new delicacies!
One of the most popular methods for the community to find new food is, of course, through social media. Through influencers’ food reviews, netizens would normally be tempted to try it out themselves. But for this particular influencer, it is the total opposite!

Just recently, a food review video on Twitter went viral. In the said video, several people from ‘Jom Kita My’ went to review a restaurant in Petaling Jaya called Garden Western Grill. The restaurant specialises in large-portioned Western food. The influencers said that one plate can feed many people. They seemed to be enjoying their meal but the way they ate – stuffing food into their mouths with barbecue sauce dripping from their faces – was off-putting.
In what appears to be an act of greed and gluttony, they had ordered several dishes to try out. Besides addressing their excessive orders, many were left uncomfortable after watching their eating habit. This caused netizens to voice their concerns over the TikTokers’ so-called “food review” as well as criticising their portrayal in the video.
Scrolling through the TikTok comments, one man said, “I’m not fat shaming, but that man needs to stop eating unhealthy food. It’s possible to get diabetes.” Countless other comments mentioned that it was “disgusting to watch“. One netizen reminded everyone to stop glorifying gluttony and that food should be enjoyed in moderation.
After the review went viral, most of the influencers featured in the video were criticised, but the obese man stood out most. In response to the heavy criticisms, the food reviewer – Rifdi Amri – wrote in a quote tweet, “I would like to apologize for my somewhat impolite eating style and accept reprimands openly. God willing, I will try to change my food review style to be more polite after this. But please don’t insult my physicality.”
Saya ingin memohon maaf mengenai gaya makan yang agak kurang sopan dan menerima teguran secara terbuka. In shaa allah saya akan cuba ubah gaya review makanan agar lebih sopan & berkualiti selepas ini 🙏
Cuma saya mohon janganlah sampai menghina fizikal saya https://t.co/iJ12qWyuyq

Despite the recent negative spotlight, many Malaysians have been dining at this restaurant for almost two years now. This viral new food post is only going to give the eatery more publicity. Needless to say, it’s a win for them.
