(Video) Local Tourists Paid RM750 At A Seafood Restaurant In Sabah; Netizens Claim It’s A Scam

Malaysians are no strangers to unreasonably priced restaurants. Remember the viral ikan siakap fiasco? After the issue broke out, the owner of the restaurant was reported to have been sued.  For what reason, you may ask? Apparently, she failed to present complete business documents.

This time around, another similar issue has gone viral on the internet. For starters, a TikToker known as @iamujang took to his socials to share his experience at a seafood restaurant located in the Filipino Market in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. The video has garnered over 800k views on TikTok at the time of writing (Monday, 12th December).

Through the video, the content creator uploaded a video of him and his friends eating at a seafood restaurant. As revealed by @iamujang himself, he and his friends ordered various types of seafood such as tiger prawns, lobsters, clams, ikan siakap, the Lato seaweed, among others.

In the next video, the four friends pointed out that they enjoyed their meal, though they forgot to ask the overall price of the food that they ordered. It was then revealed the total amount of food was RM783, leaving the group of friends in shock. It was then revealed that they ended up paying RM750 for the meal instead after receiving a “discount”.

Needless to say, the post sent many into an uproar. Some even pointed out that the local tourists might have been scammed. To quote one commenter, “Most restaurants (in Sabah) would often scam other people by overcharging their customers (especially) if they’re not from Sabah.” Another added, “Next time, please refer to the local people there if you don’t want to get scammed. It’s so expensive.”
